ASN.1
Previous: Embedded PDV Up: Abstract Syntax Notation Next: Subtype Notation and Value Sets

Additional Features

ASN.1 defines a subtype notation and value sets, a method for handling recursion in data types, and a macro facility. Subtypes and recursion are used more frequently than macros. We include macros because of their role in common service elements of the Application Layer discussed in a later Chapter. Macros in ASN.1 became depreciated in 1994 and were replaced by Information Objects. Information Object provide the functionality of Macros, however they added improved features.
